KUALA
LUMPUR, Malaysia – BAE Systems, the global defence, security and
aerospace manufacturer, confirms its participation and sponsorship
of the ASEAN SME Showcase and Conference 2015 as part of its aim to
help raise Malaysia’s global competitiveness by continuing dialogue and
developing partnerships with innovative, small-and-medium enterprises
(SMEs) in Malaysia.
Held over three days from 26th to 28th
May 2015 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, the ASEAN SME Showcase
and
Conference 2015 serves as a conduit for BAE Systems to introduce
Malaysian SMEs to its global aerospace supply chain of over 7,000
suppliers and to explore opportunities to work with BAE Systems.
John
Brosnan, Managing Director, BAE Systems, South East Asia, said: “Over
the past few years, we have successfully linked a number of
Malaysian SMEs with UK-based companies and this year we continue to
sustain our efforts in industrial partnership by working closely at the
ASEAN SME Showcase with the British Malaysian Chamber of Commerce (BMCC)
to help promote the UK as a market for Malaysian
 SMEs.”
Also
present at the showcase is BAE Systems’ most recent partner, a local
technology SME; Loka Wireless Sdn Bhd. Both companies recently
signed an agreement to evaluate the performance of BAE Systems’ NAVSOP
technology and to develop it for the commercial and military markets.
NAVSOP
is a navigation system designed by BAE Systems which is not confined to
GPS dependency and is able to work indoors. Thus, NAVSOP
will enhance the product offering of Loka Wireless’ Geomorse system, by
offering coverage in areas that GPS cannot penetrate or offers
unreliable coverage in areas such as oil and gas facilities, ports etc.
“We
are always on the lookout for more Malaysian SMEs that we can partner
with on technology. Our intention with key stakeholders in Malaysia
is a collaborative approach – uniting capabilities and sharing
expertise to maximise innovation and grow the country’s economy. We are
committed in becoming a long-term partner with the Malaysian government
and local industry to support the nation’s Economic
Transformation Programme (ETP) and Vision 2020,” added Brosnan.
Recognising
the importance of SMEs as key engines of economic growth, BAE Systems
proactively shares its best practices and insights to empower the SME
 community in Malaysia.
